Our Mission
Receiving Faith - Faithfully Serving is our mission statement. It is reflective
of the rhythm of life we at Atonement Lutheran Church seek to instill. We come
to receive and we go to serve.
To the Ephesians, Paul wrote, "It is by grace you have been saved, through faith
— and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God." (Eph
2:8) and to the Romans he said, "... faith comes from hearing the message and
the message is heard through the word of Christ." (Rom 10:17) Faith is a gift
given by God through Word and Sacrament. So we come each Sunday to hear that
Word of Christ and to participate in His Sacraments. As we do He is at work
distributing, strengthening, and preserving the gift of faith, faith that we
have been saved by God’s grace shown to the world in the work of Jesus Christ.
The gift of faith is dynamic. "Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by
action, is dead," (James 2:17) writes the Apostle James. Faith frees and empowers
us for lives of service to our fellow man. So we encourage and support one
another in the actions that flow from faith.
The life of faith revolves around the Cross. We come to receive all the benefits
of Christ’s redemptive work, chief among them faith and forgiveness, and we go
forth to faithfully serve as we have been served. Forgiven, we forgive. Taught,
we teach. Lifted, we lift. Loved, we love.
