Weekly Devotional Helps, November 16-22

From pg. 32 of the CPH pamphlet entitled A Simple Explanation of the Church Year-

“The Church Year began with Advent and the joyful hope and expectation of Jesus coming to save the world with His nativity. The Church Year comes to a close in much the same way as it began: the closing Sundays of the Church Year teach of the second coming of Jesus for the resurrection of the dead and the Last Judgment. For those who know and trust in Jesus, His return is only the beginning of eternal delight. Lord Jesus, come swiftly to take us to the wedding feast of the Lamb, which has no end!”

Readings-

Monday- Jeremiah 31:1-17, 23-24; Matthew 27:1-10

Tuesday- Jeremiah 33:1-22; Matthew 27:11-32

Wednesday- Jeremiah 37:1-21; Matthew 27:33-56

Thursday- Jeremiah 38:1-28; Matthew 26:57-66

Collect for the Last Sunday of the Church Year-

Eternal God, merciful Father, You have appointed Your Son as judge of the living and the dead. Enable us to wait for the day of His return with our eyes fixed on the kingdom prepared for Your own from the foundation of the world; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Small Catechism- (If you want, try and memorize this by next Sunday.)

(From the Table of Duties)- To Youth- “Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothes yourselves with humility toward one another, because, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’ Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time.”

(1 Peter 5:5-6) (2nd grade +)
